A Few Good Resources
In this ever-changing world of communications, we are constantly looking for information. So much changes so fast, it is difficult to keep up. Here are few good resources that might be of interest.
The following are a few traditionally data oriented magazines that voice people should be reading. All are free subscriptions. All also contain a few, if not several, voice related articles in just about every issue. Your data counterparts are reading these, you should be too:
Network World – a weekly magazine that features a lot of VoIP case studies. Go to www.networkworld.com to sign up.
Information Week. Another weekly full of interesting articles. Go to www.informationweek.com to subscribe.
VON Magazine, available through www.vonmagazine.com focuses on voice and video on the net.
A paid subscription to Business Communication Review is also a great idea. The cost is less than $50 a year and there is little or no advertising. It is a great investment in yourself.
I am sure many of you use the web to find information and there are tons of places to look. Here are a few I found especially helpful:
www.bitpipe.com - Full of white papers, product literature and case studies.
www.Iec.org/online/tutorials - International Engineering Consortium-free online tutorials
www.Isolvesystems.com - Technology news and resources
www.searchvoip.com - Great resource for VoIP information
www.tek-tips.com - sign-up for an account and get tons of information
Another good place for white papers and other good information is manufacturer web sites. Try www.nortel.com, www.cisco.com, www.shoretel.com, www.avaya.com. There are many more, but this will keep you busy for a while.
Take a few minutes on your lunch hour one day and see what’s out there. You will find that there is a lot of free information. I am keeping a list of resources, so if you find something especially good, let me know. I will add it to the list and share it with anyone who wants it.
