Obtaining an unknown configuration password on a NORSTAR MICS/CICS 4.x

You must have the following items:

    Norstar Remote Utilities 8.1
    A computer able to run NRU 8.1 and a modem or direct connection.
    RAD connected to the MICS/CICS 4.x

If the configuration password is unknown there are two ways to reset the password back to the defaults. One way to do this is to short out the capacitor on the motherboard but if that is done; the system programming is lost. The second way is to connect through a RAD to the system and download your passwords using NRU 8.1 Excel files. Once downloaded, you would be able to display that information. You must use the Excel file that relates to your software level and unit type. These Excel files are located in the C:/ICSRT/WORKBOOK folder. Run the file and enable the macros. Then set your unit hardware and configuration parameters up. To reduced download time select only password information for acquisition. Select the ACQUIRE tab in the Excel file and you will automatically be presented with the connection properties window of the RAD. After downloading successfully the current passwords for the system are now displayed. Using this password information you now can gain entry to the MICS/CICS.
